How many days since a date?
Count how many days have passed since a date. Great for milestones: how long ago something happened, or how many days you have kept something up.
How it works
- 1
Pick the date in the past.
- 2
You instantly see how many days ago that was.
Does the start day itself count?
Subtract one date from another and you get the number of nights in between, not the number of days you have lived through. If the start day was yesterday, the difference is 1. If it was today, it is 0. The arithmetic is right, but it quietly leaves out the very day everything began.
NanoCount counts differently and treats the start day itself as Day 1, so it always shows one more than the raw difference. That is what most people mean when they ask how many days since something: not the cold gap between two calendar dates, but which day they are on now, the first one included.
The milestones people actually mark
Counting up produces round numbers that people genuinely pause on. A hundred days is the first that carries weight, a little over three months in. Half a year, roughly 182 days, already feels like real distance. And 365 days marks the first full year, the most symbolic point of all, where most people look back at how far they have come.
After that the milestones spread out, but they stay memorable. Five hundred days lands around a year and four months, a point almost nobody plans for and which therefore takes you by surprise. A thousand days works out to roughly two years and nine months. By then something that started as an intention has long since become ordinary.
What people count from
The reasons are almost always personal. Someone counts from their last cigarette, because every extra day is proof that it is working. Another counts from the birth of a child, in that stretch of life where you still measure time in days rather than months. Someone else counts from a first day at work, simply to feel how long they have belonged there.
Harder chapters get their number too: since an operation, to give recovery something you can hold on to. And there are the quieter ones: since you two got together, since the move into a first place of your own. In every case the number makes something abstract suddenly concrete. A date turns into a distance you have covered.
A one-off answer, or a number you keep watching?
This calculator answers one question at one moment: how many days is it today, from this one date? That is enough when you just want to know where you stand. Tomorrow the answer is a different number again, and you would have to come back here and work it out once more.
If you would rather not look it up every time and simply watch the number move, that is what a count-up in the NanoCount app does. The start date stays put, the counter keeps running and shows that you are on Day 135. With a widget that number sits on your Home Screen, without opening the app at all.
