🤖 How to add a countdown widget on your Android

How to set it up

   Install a countdown app

   Pick an app that offers widgets and install it. Create a countdown to the date you want to track.

   Long-press the Home Screen

   Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until a menu appears.

   Open Widgets

   Tap 'Widgets' to open the list of available widgets.

   Find your countdown app

   Scroll to your countdown app and touch and hold its widget.

   Drag it to your screen

   Drag the widget to where you want it on the Home Screen and let go.

   Resize it

   Touch and hold the widget briefly, then drag the edges to make it bigger or smaller.

Why a countdown widget?

A widget keeps your countdown in sight without opening an app. You see straight away how many days are left until your moment.

The widget updates itself, so the number of days is always right.

It differs per brand (Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi)

The steps can be named slightly differently per manufacturer. On a Samsung you tap 'Widgets' after the long press; on a Google Pixel the widget tray opens with a long press.

The order stays the same: long-press, open the widgets, pick your countdown app and place the widget on your screen.

Size and multiple countdowns

Many widgets can be dragged bigger or smaller after placing. A larger widget often shows more detail or several countdowns at once.

Many countdown apps offer a multi-widget that shows several events in one widget.

On the Lock Screen

Some newer Android phones allow widgets on the Lock Screen too, set up in its settings. If yours does not, a launcher like Nova can sometimes offer a similar spot.

Editing or removing the widget

Touch and hold the widget to move or remove it: drag it to 'Remove' or the bin icon.

Some widgets have a settings icon to change the countdown or style shown.

Widget not working?

Open the app once so your countdown is saved and check that the app is up to date.

Battery saving can slow widgets down. Turn it off for the countdown app if needed, so the widget updates on time.
